Former Trump foe Michael Avenatti sentenced to prison for Nike extortion plot

Former Trump foe Michael Avenatti has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison after trying to extort Nike for upwards of $25 million by threatening the company with bad publicity.

Mr Avenatti rose to prominence after he represente adult film actress and producer Stormy Daniels, who alleges she was paid “hush money” in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election exchange for her being silent about an alleged affair with Donald Trump.

Mr Trump has denied all these claims.
